THE ARCHIVE COLLECTION

The document archives measure 664 metres and have 5,528 installation units, which are stocked in certified metal shelves that are installed in two deposits.

Chronologically, the documents of the archives range from 1868 to 2003. There are no documents prior to the period because of the fire started as a consequence of the 1868 revolution. It destroyed all the existing documents.

The collection has been organized according to the methodological rules written by the technical services of the Culture Commission of the Consell Insular de Mallorca.

It follows an organic-functional distribution. It is divided into five document categories: government bodies, general administration, economic administration, elections and archives from private owners and other institutions.

The most important and largest category is general administration. It has 14,852 files (totaling 88.3% of the inventory).

The archives from private owners and other institutions are also noteworthy. They include the sections “Consejo Local del Movimiento” and “Cámara Agraria Local de Santanyí” (added in 2003)
