SERVICES

The Service Department of the Santanyí archives is in charge of storing, preserving and managing the documents produced by the Town Hall, as well as of other bodies that give witness to the Town Hall activities in the municipality.

Document access service

Document access and examination rights, as well as the right of information, which is not legally restricted, are universal.

The municipal archives give users the possibility of accessing the existing documents of the document deposits in the archive office. Access to both the administrative and cultural archives is open to citizens.

The municipal archives offer a consultation room with capacity for 4 people, information and research of municipal and historical documents, maps and photos of the municipality, an auxiliary administrative library, municipal publications, a reprography system and the description instruments of the archives.

Municipal Administrative Library

The archives have an auxiliary library that includes 600 copies of different subjects (law, history, poetry, tourism, etc).

DIt offers the possibility of consulting the collections of Aranzadi (1933-1997), El Consultor (1933 – 2001), l'Alcubilla and Gaceta de Madrid (not complete), as well as the consultation of official bulletins , e.g., BOE and BOIB.

Municipal publications

DThe municipal archives contain all the publications edited by or published with the collaboration of the Santanyí Town Hall. It contains poetry, advertising, festival programmes, historical publications, etc.

Reprography system

The municipal archives offer the possibility of photocopying and reproducing documents of the municipal archives, prior payment of the reproduction fee. The fee is set by the regulatory tax law for the issuing of administrative documents approved by the Official Bulletin of the Balearic Autonomous Community. The implementation of the law in regards to the municipal archives began on 1 January 2002. The reproduction of document has to be requested in writing by filling a request available at the archives.

Description tools

The description tools available at the municipal archives are based exclusively on the inventory made in 1989 (Beatriu Zamorano & Antoni Ballester, 1992). (Beatriu Zamorano & Antoni Ballester , 1992).

The inventory begins with an introductory historical chapter on the municipality, the Town Hall and the archives. It highlights the historic event that has marked the production of documents in the municipality: the uprising of 1868, when a group of peasants stormed the Town Hall and destroyed all the existing documents.

The second chapter deals with several aspects of the municipal archives, its infrastructures, as well as containing references to the classification framework being used, the existing documents, additional information, catalogue numbers, etc.
